The Real Madrid Club of Fútbol, better known as Real Madrid (often reduced to Real or, in Spain, El Madrid) is a professional Spanish football club, based in Madrid. Winner of numerous national and international titles, he received the honorary title of the largest club of the twentieth century from the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA).
Founded in 1902 by Julián Palacios and the brothers Juan y Carlos Padrós the club is awarded the title Real (meaning "Royal" in Spanish) by King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1920. Real Madrid wins at the top of football in the mid-1950s under the presidency of Santiago Bernabéu, winning the first five editions of the European Champion Clubs' Cup. In the 1980s, the club once again has one of the best teams in Europe, nicknamed La Quinta del Buitre ("The Vulture Band"), which has won twice the UEFA Cup. Real Madrid returned to the early 2000s with its policy of recruiting the best players in the world, which earned its team the nickname "Galactics". In 2017, the club counts on its list of 33 championship titles in Spain and 12 victories in the Champions League, two records in the matter.
At home, the club usually evolves in white, which earned him the nickname Casa blanca
(" White House "). The club has been operating since 1947 at the centrally located Stade Santiago Bernabéu, which has a capacity of 81,044 seats since its last renovation in 2006.
Real Madrid has long-standing rivalries with some clubs, including FC Barcelona (the clash between the two clubs, nicknamed El Clásico, is one of the most famous in football history) and with the other big club of the Spanish capital Atlético de Madrid in the Madrid derby.
Unlike most European clubs, Real Madrid is the collective property of its members, who have been managing it since its inception. Yet the club is one of the biggest revenue generators in the world.

Historically, Real Madrid is the most successful team in Spain, having won 64 national competitions, and one of the most recognized clubs on the world stage, having won 23 international competitions, making it the most victorious club on the European scene 52 and the first on the international stage in terms of competitions officially recognized by UEFA and FIFA.
