Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club, more commonly known as Al-Hilal (نادي الهلال: "The Crescent") is a Saudi football club based in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia and founded in 1957.
Al-Hilal is the most titled club in Saudi Arabia, winning 53 trophies including 13 Saudi Arabia championships and 2 AFC champions.
This has earned the IFFHS the "Best Asian Club of the 20th Century", far ahead of its main competitor the Japanese club Yokohama Marinos2.

Al-Hilal Club was founded on October 16, 1957 as El Olympia ("the Olympic") 3, by Abdul Rahman Bin Said. The club changed its name on December 3, 1958 by decree of King Saud, after a first tournament opposing the Olympic Club, Al-Shabab, Al-Riyadh and El-Kawkab4.
The leaders are ambitious and are making sure to build a competitive team, which takes away the Saudi King's Cup, one of the two national competitions at the time, in 1961. In 1964, the club achieves the double Arabian Cup Saudi Arabia-King's Cup, which established him permanently in the elite of Saudi football3. The club is one of the eight founders of the Saudi Arabian Championship, winning the first edition in 1977. The club benefits from its fledgling reputation and financial strength to attract renowned technicians including Brazilian coach Mario Zagallo and the Brazilian international midfielder Roberto Rivelino3.
Al Hilal won the championship again in 1979, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990 ... and reached the second place in 1980, 1981, 1983 and 1987, without counting the cup competitions3.
Beginning in the 1980s, continental competitions grew, including the Asian Cup of Champions Clubs, where Al-Hilal was a finalist in 1987 and 1988, after winning the 1986 Persian Gulf Championship Cup. In 1992, Al-Hilal won the Asian Cup champions clubs against Esteghlal Tehran (1-1, 4-3 tab), title holder. International titles accumulated in the 1990s: League of Arab Champions in 1994 and 1995, Asian Cup Winners Cup and Super Cup of Asia in 1997, Cup of Clubs champions Persian Gulf in 1998 ... Especially , in 2000 the Saudis won the Asian Cup of Champions Clubs for the second time, against Japan's Júbilo Iwata (3-2 ap), and again the Asian Cup Winners Cup in 2002.
After a decade of triumphs, Al-Hilal has to do with the emergence at the highest continental level of its rival Al-Ittihad, based in Jeddah, which takes seven championship titles between 1997 and 2009 and in turn wins the Champions League and Al-Hilal, who sees his main stars stop their career (Youssef Al-Thuniyan in 2005, Sami Al-Jaber and Nawaf Al-Temyat in 2008, Mohammed al-Deayea in 2010) came prematurely out of the Champions League in 2005 and 20083.
