Erasmus Insurance

Erasmus insurance: a useful student insurance abroad

Going on Erasmus is now part of the student journey of many young people. Being able to study abroad is indeed a tremendous opportunity. It is thus possible to improve oneself in one or more languages, to meet people of other nationalities and to live day after day in a different culture. In order to make the most of your stay, have you considered taking out additional Erasmus insurance? Designed for students, it protects you from all unforeseeable events that could occur during your stay.

Coverage of health costs when you go to study on Erasmus

Regarding your health protection as an Erasmus student, you should know that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can cover your health costs like a simple check-up with the doctor. This must be requested at least 15 days before your departure from your social security fund. Valid for 2 years, it will replace your classic Vitale card abroad and will allow you to benefit from on-site coverage of your medical care, in accordance with the legislation and formalities in force in the country of stay. For more information, do not hesitate to consult the dedicated page on the Ameli site or on the site of your student social security.

Please note that the EHIC is only valid in EU / EEA member states (* see list below). If you are doing your Erasmus in a non-European country, your social protection will vary depending on your host country and your age. Also pay attention to the maximum coverage of medical costs by social security. In many countries, they are grossly insufficient. To overcome this problem, insurers offer contracts for healthcare costs abroad.

In any case, remember to always keep your supporting documents if you pay for health costs in advance at a pharmacy or at a doctor to be sure that you are well reimbursed.
