Linguistic stay insurance

Are you planning a language study trip abroad?

You have plans to improve in English or a language that is important to you. Nothing better than immersing yourself in a foreign country to learn your language and discover its culture. Language stays are a good opportunity to practice a foreign language and to improve quickly.

Different organizations and different formulas exist: the most common is to take classes in the morning and then have free afternoons. Offers and organizations are legion and it is not necessarily easy to navigate.

You should first define the length of your stay, which can range from 15 days on average to a year depending on your goals. Then will come the destination which will obviously depend on the language you are targeting. To date, it is countries such as Great Britain, the USA, Canada or Ireland that are privileged for a language stay in order to improve one's English.

You will also have the choice between the types of courses to take: standard, intensive, preparation for TOEFL or TOEIC tests, private individuals, etc. and for accommodation: with a host family, with the language teacher or in a student residence.

In any case, we advise you to opt for an accredited body such as UNOSEL or the National Office for the Guarantee of Language Stays and Internships and to take the time to prepare for your stay.

Why do you need to take out language travel insurance?

It should be noted that the majority of language schools will require you to leave with language travel insurance including medical coverage and civil liability for your entire stay.

Beyond the requirements of the schools, we advise you to check the coverages you already have and to target your needs according to the language stay for which you have opted (destination, duration and guarantees that you need in particular).

Case of a language stay in the European Union

If your language stay is in one of the EU countries, your health costs such as a check-up to the doctor will be covered by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Be careful, however, the coverage limits offered by the EHIC are low and additional insurance for health costs may be necessary.

Case of a language stay outside the European Union

For countries outside the EU, your social protection will vary depending on the host country and your age. In this case, we advise you to take specific cover for health costs unless this is already included in one of your contracts.

The additional coverage offered by the Latitude Etudiant Language Stay insurance

For total peace of mind, we advise you to take out additional language travel insurance. Indeed, the EHIC alone will only cover your health costs. Abroad, it will also be important that you are protected in the event of a medical emergency, repatriation, damage caused to a third party or problems that may arise when you go to the place of your language study trip. All of the costs associated with these events can represent significant sums.

The basic guarantees included in our language stay insurance are:

Emergency medical expenses abroad up to € 160,000
Medical assistance and repatriation
Travel assistance and search and rescue costs
Legal assistance

Additional language stay insurance guarantees

Depending on the option chosen (1 or 2), your Latitude Etudiant language stay insurance will provide you with additional guarantees such as:

Luggage insurance in the event of theft, damage or loss up to € 2,000 (in formula 2)
Travel cancellation insurance up to € 3,000 per insured (in formula 2)
Civil liability cover for private life and individual accidents up to € 4,500,000 per insured (in formula 2)
Note that Latitude Etudiant insurance protects students between 18 and 30 years old abroad for a period of one to twelve consecutive months. It will cover you in addition to the European health insurance card.

For language stays of less than one month (and up to 3 months), you can also benefit from the protection of the Voyageo Short Stay contract which also covers people over 30 years of age.
