Disneyland Park, is a theme park located in the city of Anaheim, California, in the United States. It is the only "enchanted realm" designed and seen by Walt Disney and was inaugurated on July 17, 1955. It was built in just over a year by the Walt Disney Imagineering teams. Walt Disney had to build it borrow money in part from ABC in exchange for the production of the famous Disneyland series subsequently named Wonderful World of Walt Disney.

The park was built on an old orange grove of 730,000 m2 (73 ha) in Orange County, some thirty kilometers south-east of Los Angeles. Only 370,000 m2 (34 ha) constitute the park itself. The park is nicknamed "The Happiest Place on Earth" (Happiest Place on Earth).

The park is part of the Disneyland Resort complex which also includes another park, Disney California Adventure, several hotels and a shopping area.

Around the park

The park has become a symbol of the American syncretic culture, often judged in a pejorative way. Tomi Ungerer shows what Disneyland sometimes summarizes European architecture: "I am the first to regret the precedence of tourists over the faithful in this place [Cathedral of Strasbourg], the repository of so many prayers, so many gratitude and jubilation, So many consolations in mourning and despair. For it is above all the visitors of passage who come to rinse the eye in its holy water font. So, this American tourist whom I heard addressing his family: "My God! It's just (sic) like Disneyland! The complex

Since the late 1980s, Disneyland Park is part of a leisure complex that includes a second Disney California Adventure theme park, several hotels as well as many services and activities.

transport network

A large number of means of transport coexist within the theme park. Walt Disney had a great passion for transportation and railways in particular. He built a miniature railway with a steam locomotive in the garden of his own home, the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. This passion was shared by Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston, two animators of Disney Studios. However, a large number of different modes of transport have been integrated into the park. The transportation system is, in a sense, more a collection of attractions than a real transportation system, although it is also used for that purpose. The train still allows to pass from one country to another without returning to the central place (see Radial organization of the park) and the monorail joins the hotels and Downtown Disney avoiding the esplanade.
