The holidays of the French for the summer
Each year, a large number of French people take the road for vacation. How many are they from? What are their favorite destinations? What budget are they planning? Here is a small preview of the “holiday forecasts” for this summer.
An increase in holiday departures recorded
Contrary to the 2011 forecast, the number of departures on summer vacation by the French showed a slight increase for 2012, rising from 66% to 67%.
While most households plan to leave only once, some families want to take advantage of their vacation to leave 2 or even 3 times. According to statistics, residents of the Paris region are the most likely to change their horizons during their holidays.
The number of vacation days remains unchanged from last year. Thus, nearly 53% of French people plan to stay at least four nights in their holiday destination. On the other hand, young people (the group of 18-24 year olds) think of shortening the duration of their stay.
Various destinations
International destinations continue to attract many French people who want to go to Europe or North America. Africa and Asia have slightly fewer followers.
As for national tourism enthusiasts, they show a preference for the regions of Provence, the Alps, the Côte d'Azur, Brittany and Languedoc Roussillon.
A larger budget
On the budget side, the amount allocated to summer holidays will be more or less stabilized for half of the starters, especially among seniors. On the contrary, it will be revised upwards for certain more privileged socio-professional categories.
Overall, it is a budget planned in advance and part of which will be drawn from savings, even for the wealthiest categories.
