Power and autonomy of electric bikes
As you have seen in the paragraph above, in the eyes of the law, there are therefore two main families of motor-assisted bicycles, the Speedbikes, much more powerful, which can reach 45 km/h, thanks to a battery on the electric bike that can go up to 650 Watts and which are assimilated to mopeds more than Electric Assistance Vehicles.
How do his bikes help you pedal? take a look at our guide on how electric bikes work and the fastest of them have the advantage of being environmentally friendly and more maneuverable than any scooter, but they come with far too many restrictions on their use for they represent a real interest, not to mention their prices that can reach up to 5000 €. In addition, cyclists driving without respecting the legislation risk hefty fines of €750 for an absence of registration or even €3,750 if the user does not have a license plate or insurance. It is the same for daily traffic, because of its assimilation to a 50cc moped, the Speedbike is prohibited from riding on cycle paths under penalty of a fine of 150 €. Choosing your electric bike is therefore not easy, you have to study the market and your needs.
Electric bike and scooter comparison 50
When we see the prices of electric bikes, we can see that it is relatively expensive despite a significant drop in recent years. But, comparing with a 50cc scooter, the price is quite reasonable. The VAE is a practical and above all very economical means of transport. Below is a comparison table between an electrically assisted bicycle and a 50cc scooter for a daily trip of 20 km over a year, with two mid-high-end products.
VAE electrically assisted bicycle

In summary, we can see that acquiring a VAE or a Scooter requires an almost identical outflow of money. But the user fees will considerably inflate the price of the scooter. We will have almost 500 € difference between the costs spent for an electrically assisted bicycle, and the costs spent for a 50cc scooter over a year. Imagine in the long term the benefit you will make riding an electrically assisted bicycle (VAE) rather than a 50 cm3 scooter. In this table, we are not talking about maintenance costs which will very significantly inflate the score for the scooter, unlike the small maintenance costs required by a VAE (brakes, transmission, tires). And we are not talking either plus fine charges (speeding, unauthorized parking), or damage charges (vandalism, accident). The advantage of the electrically assisted bicycle is that you will also be able to use cycle paths (which sometimes and very often avoid large detours), without however circulating in certain pedestrian zones, in bus lanes, in opposite directions. . And you can of course stop and park easily, and therefore save time without the risk of a fine.
