Whether you are a bicycle traveler, a daily or Sunday cyclist, cycling is undoubtedly the best way to avoid traffic jams and the famous quest for a parking space. But there are still few for a country that has more than 3,000 beaches on its 5,500 km of coastline along the English Channel, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Le Havre, for its part, seems to be the only French city to have equipped itself with a secure parking lot on its beach. Otherwise, you will have to rely on the furniture present to try to find a place.

The Nordic countries, and in particular on the beaches of the North Sea and the Baltic, have set up giant car parks on the beach to cope with the flood of visitors coming by bicycle.

The Normandy and Brittany coasts

On the Normandy side, Le Havre beach has a secure and sheltered bicycle parking lot with 20 spaces. Access is controlled by an electronic lock that can be opened using a badge. Free for the day for a normal bike, you will have to inquire about 8 euros for a folding bike and 10 for a VAE. Further north, Dunkirk, which has just acquired a secure car park at the station, is also considering equipping its beach with this same type of solution.

In Brittany, many beaches are equipped with bike racks allowing you to leave your bike while you enjoy swimming. Especially on the beaches of Quiberon, Pornic but also on the side of La Baule and the peninsula of Guérande. 3 parking areas are indeed accessible in the Baie du Scall, as well as in Batz-sur-Mer, whose Valentin beach has a bicycle parking lot with 32 spaces.

The tourist islands on the Atlantic coast, very popular with bicycles, are also equipped with bicycle racks. Indeed, on most of them, such as the Ile de Ré, the Ile d'Oléron or Noirmoutier, the car is not welcome. The bicycle being the main means of transport, the risk of theft is therefore reduced.

In the Arcachon basin, most towns and in particular the Dune du Pilat are labeled “Accueil Vélo”. On the latter, parking is also free for bicycles. From Lacanau to Hossegor or Capbreton, the bicycle facilities are dense and numerous. Most of the beaches in the region therefore offer equipment for leaving your bicycle, also of the bicycle rack type. As well as on the Basque coast in Biarritz, Anglet, Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Hendaye.
Park your bike in the south-east and on the Côte d'Azur

On the Mediterranean coast, many beaches have the advantage of being close to large cities. Or sometimes even directly in big cities. Bicycle parking spaces are then generally more numerous than on wilder and more isolated beaches.
