Additional deadline for registration of the transfer after the purchase of the car:
If you already have a car or trailer and a new purchase from a dealer or a used car or trailer from an individual, you can transfer your registration to a new car. Massachusetts allows an additional period of 7 calendar days from the date you sold your previous car to register a new one.
During this grace period, the following conditions must be met:
You must be at least 18 years old
The new car or trailer must be of the same type and have the same number of wheels as the previous one.
You will need to bring the transfer documents along with the license plate to be transferred to the car.
You must have lost property or smashed your old car
Registration marks must be affixed to the newly purchased car
There is no time to grace without a registered car or trailer. RMV does not provide temporary registration marks.
