Liquids and other items prohibited in the aircraft cabin

The list of items allowed in the cabin baggage of the aircraft is more restrictive than that of items allowed in the hold. If you are not used to these rules, you may take something that will not be allowed. It would be a shame to have a shower gel confiscated before departure or a souvenir upon return.

What liquids can I take in the cabin baggage of the aircraft?

The term liquid is also understood to mean anything which has the consistency of gel, paste or even aerosols. You can take almost any liquid, except those that are explosive, flammable, corrosive ...

To take a liquid on the plane, it must be in a transparent container of 100 ml maximum. Your different liquids must all fit in a single transparent plastic bag that closes. This bag will have a maximum volume of 1 liter (approximately 20cmx20cm) and you should only have one per passenger.

Exceptions are made only for baby food and medicines (upon presentation of a prescription from your doctor). They will not need to enter the transparent liquid bag but must still be prepared to be declared during the safety inspection.

If you have purchased duty-free liquids, you will need to keep them in their transparent plastic bag with proof of your purchase.

Can I take food on the plane?

If you want to snack during your transport or have a meal, you can take any solid food with you in the cabin of the plane: chips, bread, cereal bar, fruits, vegetables, hard cheeses ... The liver fatty and cold cuts are generally allowed but only vacuum-packed.

For non-solid food (yoghurt, pâté, jam), the containers must not be more than 100ml and they must be put in the same transparent bag as the liquids.

What happens to items confiscated at the airport?

The answer will depend on the airport but confiscated items / food / liquids are often destroyed, they will be donated to associations at best. Some airports, such as Charleroi, offer to put your item as a deposit that you can recover on your return for € 15. In Lyon, the See You Later service allows you to have the object returned home, by completing online procedures within 15 days: practical for small items of great sentimental value.
