Cabin baggage: what is allowed by airlines

Blessed are those who know how to "travel light" and who are able to take the plane almost with their hands in their pockets. But for most passengers, packing their luggage is often a puzzle, even a Tetris game, where every inch and every gram counts. To prevent your suitcase, deemed too large or too heavy, from being placed in the hold (obviously at an additional cost), follow our guide to find out all about authorized cabin baggage.
And because no one is safe from the theft or loss of their belongings while traveling, consider protecting them by purchasing baggage insurance.

Hand luggage dimension on the plane. What are the dimensions of cabin baggage authorized by airlines

Most airlines allow each passenger to board the plane with at least one piece of free baggage (cabin suitcase, backpack, trolley bag, etc.). On condition that precise dimensions are respected. Otherwise, it will be checked in in the hold and you will then have to pay a supplement.
As a general rule, the authorized weight is limited to 10 to 18 kg and the maximum size of cabin baggage is 115 cm. A number that is obtained by adding the height, width and depth (handles, wheels and exterior pockets included). It should measure 55cm x 35 x 25cm or 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.
These dimensions, such as weight and number of pieces of luggage, may vary by airline.
Some carriers, especially low-cost airlines, only allow one piece of cabin baggage per passenger. Which really means and without exception: 1 piece of luggage per person! Therefore, you will have to slip what are considered accessories (handbag, bag for carrying a laptop computer, electronic or photo equipment) in your luggage.

Note: in case of connecting flights on another airline, apply the rules of the most restrictive company.

What items are prohibited in the cabin?

If you only want to travel with hand baggage without having to check it in, you will have to comb through its contents. Indeed, there are many items prohibited in the cabin but their list may vary depending on the company.
If in doubt, check directly with the one you are going to borrow.

As a general rule, the following are not allowed in the cabin:

any object that can be considered or used as a weapon (fire or other) as well as ammunition and cartridges: pistol, rifles, taser, screwdriver, martial arts equipment
sharp / sharp objects: Swiss army knife, pair of scissors, cutter, nail clippers, razor blades and razor blades (disposable razors are allowed)
blunt objects or objects that could cause injuries: ski or walking poles, golf clubs, knitting needles, paddles, skateboard, etc.
explosive or flammable substances: gas and fuel containers (lighter fluid, for example), paint thinners, rockets and fireworks ...
liquids, gels, aerosols and sprays are prohibited in the cabin unless they meet certain quantity and packaging conditions (see below)
