Money is still a lucky charm

These particularities are explained by the fact that other factors affecting feelings of happiness (such as life expectancy, social relations, family support, generosity, freedom of choice and the absence of corruption) do not are not always clearly correlated with per capita income. This does not mean that money plays no role. Many studies prove that from a certain income (nearly 70,000 dollars in the United States), more money does not automatically lead to more happiness. But this may reflect only the uncharacteristic relationship between perceived happiness and well-being (which correlates with income). It should be noted that the "point of satiety" remains a topic strongly debated in the specialized literature.

You have to talk about money (or not)

The cultural aspects of the perception of money and happiness in different societies are also interesting. In the United States (where the aspiration to happiness is expressly anchored in the Declaration of Independence), happiness is of a different importance than in Asia, where people are much more reserved. In some countries (here too, the United States is a good example), people are happy to talk about their success, linking it to money like no other. In Calvinist Geneva, such an offensive position would be considered a weakness of character.

Millionaires in second class

This does not mean that the Swiss do not attach any importance to money; some would even say that they have a close relationship with him. But many of them, even if they are millionaires, take the train in second class and give them a very modest image vis-à-vis the outside. As a foreign observer, one sometimes has the feeling that ease would almost disturb them.

In some cultures (in the East, for example), haggling denotes a sense of the economy whereas in other countries (in France, for example), this practice is not well seen. These different attitudes towards money are also found in the city / country differences in countries such as Brazil, where the attitude towards wealth and its exhibition is almost American in large cities like São Paulo, while the inhabitants of the villages are rather reserved.
