AT THE RESTAURANT

The scene takes place in a restaurant.

THE CUSTOMER :

- Boy, please, the bill.

"Come, sir, you have had a salad, a boudin purée,

a cheese, an apple pie, a coffee. I make you

the bill.

The boy goes out.

THE CUSTOMER :

"He will never succeed in making this addition." Can we add up

tomatoes and pudding? ... (He strikes his forehead with the flat of his hand.) It is

mathematically impossible.

The boy comes back.

THE CUSTOMER :

"Ah! (He takes a relieved look.) You could not make my addition?

THE BOY:

- No, because I think I forgot to count you the green salad then ...

THE CLIENT furious:

"Why, it was only for that reason that you could not make the addition?" You

want to add up what is not additionnable. Do not you know (contrite air and

stunned by the boy) that it is mathematically impossible to add

different things? "A sausage + two sausages" is possible. How do you want

add a coffee and a pudding, and why not a pea and a

pumpkin? You are absurd, ridiculous, illogical, insane, silly, stupid, idiotic. And

you would make me pay an extravagant, unreasonable addition,

unrealizable! That's it, we're in total unreality. Take your

calculate, try typing a pudding, a salad, a cheese and then ... and then ...

and then, nothing. Do not call the boss, useless, I can not pay an addition where he

(He stands up.) Good-bye, Sir. (He goes out.)

THE BOY looks disastrous, he strikes his head:

- A salad, a pudding, an apple pie, it is true that it is absurd ... but

who will pay ? He goes out.
