home for the aged; nursing home; old age home
Self-employed seniors' residence
Self-employed seniors' residence are autonomous housing units for self-employed pensioners with the possibility of meals, laundry and general services, but without personal care services. Life in residence for self-employed retirees offers socialization and security under one roof. Several types of residences may offer units for self-employed persons, such as retirement homes or apartments, townhouses and single-storey houses.

Nursing home for the elderly
The nursing home for the elderly is a medical care facility that ensures the continuity of continuing care and rehabilitation (SSR) to the rhythm of each patient.
Treatment takes place after the acute phase of hospitalization (medical or surgical) and generally after discharge from hospitalization.
The elderly patient is welcomed for specific care. Their mission is to:
• reduce physical disabilities;
• restore autonomy to the patient;
• encourage return to home.
But the nursing home for the elderly is often a transitional place between the hospital and the nursing home.

Reception of the elderly in retirement homes
Retirement homes are structures specializing in the reception of able-bodied, semi-disabled or disabled elderly people. They have nothing to do with the old asylums for the elderly. We distinguish :
Public retirement homes
The public retirement homes belong to the commune or the department. The tariffs of these establishments are fixed by the General Council. Poor residents can benefit from social assistance for accommodation (ASH). These institutions for the care of the elderly account for more than half of the overall population.
Private, associative or commercial retirement homes
Private and voluntary retirement homes are owned by pension funds, mutual societies, hotel groups, specialized private groups, 1901 law associations or foundations. The daily rate for these facilities for the elderly is generally higher than in the public sector.
Elderly care homes or Ehpad
Retirement homes called "medicalized" or "medical cure" are specialized in the reception of elderly people who have temporarily or permanently lost the capacity to carry out only the daily activities; Or suffering from a condition requiring treatment and medical supervision.
They offer their residents medical supervision and adapted activities, for long stays or temporary accommodation. These nursing homes allow the elderly to lose their autonomy to receive the attention and care of a permanent staff of doctors, nurses, nurses, auxiliaries, physiotherapists, speech therapists And animators.
The nursing homes are now referred to as elderly care homes (Ehpad). They must have signed a multi-year tripartite agreement with the General Council and the Health Insurance (represented by the Director General of the Regional Health Agency).
Alzheimer's Home
The Alzheimer or Cantou Protected Unit is a small unit that supports the elderly with symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. This structure organizes a real life project around the elderly. It provides a comprehensive response to the problem of dementia, which often results in disorientation, anxiety or behavioral difficulties. Therapeutic activity, reinforcement of the social bond, trained personnel ... Everything is implemented to meet the needs of the resident.
There are two types of Cantou:
• those who are integrated into a nursing home;
• those that have an existence and autonomous functioning.
Long-Term Care Units (LTCUs)
The ULSD are units designed to accommodate the elderly who no longer have their autonomy of life and whose condition requires constant monitoring and medical maintenance. In most cases, they are attached to a hospital. Healthcare expenses are borne by the Health Insurance. As in the Ehpad, the resident nevertheless pays a dependency rate and a lodging rate.
Reception of the elderly in residential and retirement homes
Self-employed residences (formerly residential homes), as well as seniors' residences, are an intermediate form between the home and the collective lodging. The reception of the able-bodied old people is done in small individual dwellings, which offer all the attributes of the home.
These residences have common rooms (dining room, gym), a sanitary room and community services, such as catering and laundry.
Service residences offer the possibility of renting or buying accommodation, from studio to two or three rooms. Like shelters, they offer optional services, such as catering, recreation, housekeeping, dry cleaning, etc. The standing of these structures for the care of the elderly is, however, higher than that of Residences, which have a social vocation.

Another type of accommodation is the family welcome at a family-friendly hotel, which offers a room, food and laundry, day and night. Social monitoring of the elderly hosted is provided by the department.
