How do you give meaning to your trip?
Make sense of your journeyDo you dream of a world tour? Going to meet other cultures? Looking for adventures? But have you considered giving meaning to your project?
Some adventurers draw a social or environmental objective: why not combine business with pleasure?
Dedicate your trip to a cause close to your heart? It seems that solidarity tourism is attracting more and more people. The fiber is for some obvious on a human level and more turned towards the environment for others. Let's see through a few examples how a trip can take a completely different turn and a thousand facets...
A trip with a social or humanitarian connotation?
There are many eco-volunteering missions to help financially and physically within local associations or NGOs, for variable durations. As an indication, it is necessary to count a budget of 2000 € for one month. But why pay when you are voluntary? For organizations that do not have a grant, this allows projects to be born. Without forgetting that it finances the costs related to your accommodation and half board.
For those whose purses are tighter, WWOOFing is based on a system of exchanging room and board for work or service. It's about making yourself available on an organic farm where you will have the opportunity to learn a know-how, a language, create social ties and visit a region during your free time. There is no remuneration possible, but you will not incur any costs. It's a way to travel with the wind without incurring too much expense. So why not let yourself be tempted by harvesting mangoes in Australia or working on a ranch in New Zealand?
Some undertake missions of at least one year: Point Cœur is a good example of solidarity among street children by giving them a shoulder to lean on to find a smile. It is a question of leaving for long periods to animate youth centers in underprivileged countries. And this at no cost? Yes, but you have to find the sponsors or sponsors. Then, you have to be able to adapt to local life in neighborhoods in need and know how to give of your time without counting the cost… A rich experience from which you come back different!
Do you want to give an environmental meaning to your trip?
Take inspiration from these backpackers who have combined travel and a good cause:
Two water explorers, the La Tullaye brothers , travel around the world with the aim of finding solutions for better water governance. Their journeys take them to Central Asia, Africa or South America. These two enthusiasts take us to the heart of their adventures through breathtaking documentaries with the aim of reaching the general public on water-related issues.
Four tree missionaries went to Af'Enture across Europe in search of agroforestry projects. They recount their study expedition with the aim of making an inventory of sustainable agricultural systems which consist of planting trees within crops or livestock. The common objective of these students is above all to raise awareness in order to make this type of culture known in France.
They did it, why not you? It's a well-known fact that little streams make big rivers… Especially since this kind of adventure is accessible to everyone and no skill is required. Whether you are not very sporty or do not speak the local language is not a barrier. With a bit of good will and a touch of good humor, you will move mountains!
And you, what is your project?
Don't hesitate to tell us about your innovative projects!
