What if you get injured or get sick abroad?

1. Safety first

Make sure everyone is safe. If you need immediate help, contact your local emergency services. The emergency number for almost all European countries is 112, it is 911 for the USA or Canada. For all other countries, remember to write down the emergency numbers on a piece of paper or in your phone.

2. See a doctor

If you have a health problem abroad, get help from a medical practitioner, such as a doctor, or by going to the hospital as quickly as possible.

If this is an emergency, contact local emergency services first, then contact the AXA Assistance emergency support team (available 24/7) as soon as you can.

If this is not an emergency or you need to be directed to an appropriate medical facility for you, call our Emergency Assistance team directly.

Depending on the country where you are and the treatment you have used, you may receive partial or total reimbursement from social security. In any case, if possible, consult the support team who will direct you to the location best suited to your problem. If you cannot contact her, refer to the public health system when possible.

3. Get writings

Most claims require supporting documentation, and medical claims are no exception. Although this is the last thing on your mind at this time, try to have copies of the documents that will support your claim before you leave the medical facility. For example, you can try to get a copy:

A report from the doctor or other medical practitioner that confirms what happened and the nature of your injury or illness.
The hospital admission report, if you are admitted.
Ambulance and medical evacuation reports if applicable.
From the police report if they were involved.
Any other useful documentation relating to the accident or your illness (in some cases we may need to obtain your medical history from your usual doctor, but we will notify you if this is the case. case).
