The Book Fair, an in-camera event reserved for seasoned literary
critics, or for the big readers in need of social life? Not this year. In 2011,
the Paris Book Fair is renewed, offers a second youth and puts the package to
attract the world. 10 good reasons to go for a ride, we like to read ... or not.
1. You want to shine in society: This is the moment or never. Tell
anyone who wants to hear that you went to the Book Fair this year, and you
found it "overall not bad, a little overrated, but interesting." And
contemplate your new intellectual aura.
2. You're tired of reading Frédéric Beigbeder or Anna Gavalda: Au
coeur Ava ÓLAFSDÓTTIR, Steinunn SIGURÐARDÓTTIR, Kari HOTAKAINEN, it may be
unpronounceable, it's more stylish when you take out a book in the subway.
And
in addition, you can see them, in real life.
3. Five countries in the spotlight (Denmark, Sweden, Norway,
Finland, Iceland), it still has more jaws than one: well it's true anyway these
countries it's all the same huh .
4. You like the cold, but have no money to travel: it's the crisis.
That's good, this year, 40 Nordic writers will come to you. The book fair is
home holidays.
5. You've always loved autographs without really knowing why: in
literature, it's called "signatures", it's more classy, but it's exactly the same. There will be
shovels, come with your library. Or your Ipad.
6. It is socially much less connoted than the Salon de l'Erotisme:
it is in any case the opinion of mother-in-law that you accompanied in this
great book fair.
7. You are a fan of Twilight and / or Millenium, and nobody
understands you: You can finally play the groupies, conferences on these
"prestigious" themes will be organized. What not to do ...
8. You want to fight against your agoraphobia: it's a good idea in
principle, but here the step to take is likely to be too important. Maybe start
with the lounge of the patterned tie or the ficus lounge, it will be calmer.
9. You are under 26 years old: It's free. And if you have more,
it's not very expensive. Radin.
10. You will have nothing to do this weekend: The movie festival is
next week.
11. You can see above a picture I took in the living room. Thanks
to thousands of exhibitors, the diversity and quality of the products was
impressive, with every aspect of the publishing world represented. The range of
topics covered at the show's Insights Program was breathtaking and provided
attendees with access to unparalleled programming of educational seminars,
interviews, workshops and demonstrations.
12. A particularly popular session was the Challenging Tradition,
explaining what skills are in vogue right now. You can see what conferences and
seminars have been held here. As you can see, shared knowledge has not failed
and people in the publishing world have had food for thought! Specifically, 58
events focused on translation and there was a stand held by the Literary
Translation Center where authors, translators and editors were able to come
together and share their ideas on what projects should be available to English
readers and vice versa.
The big book party is no longer entertaining everyone. From Friday,
March 20 until March 23, the Book Fair will be held in Paris, Porte de
Versailles. It will bring together nearly 1200 publishers, and 200,000 visitors
are expected for nearly 5,000 book signings.
An undeniable popular success that will still be shunned by some of
the biggest houses in the sector. Among them, the Odile ¬Jacob editions and the
four generalist Hachette Group companies, namely Grasset, Stock, Calmann-Lévy
and Lattès.
After a first virulent controversy in 2010, the climate calmed down
but the problem remains. So, what's wrong with the publishing world? Here are
the three reasons why publishers are not always on the same wavelength as
readers.
