Pros and cons of globalization
Globalization refers to the transformation of the world into a small town
where all societies and civilizations are closely linked in economic,
political, cultural and sociological terms. Modern technologies (means of
transport, internet, satellite television, etc.) In the past, there were few
direct relationships between the various distant companies. Today, any event
that takes place in any country in the world, has immediate repercussions on
other countries of the world. the examples of the financial crisis or the Arab
Spring show the importance of these links.
The benefits of globalization:
Globalization has many advantages, including:
• Due to globalization, technological differences between countries are
declining. multinational companies relocate their activities to poor countries
and transmit their technology. multinationals earn more and the countries of
the South wins the technology transfer, currency and jobs.
• Thanks to the Internet and the means of communication, a citizen of the
South has access to the same information, the same knowledge and the same
digital content as the countries of the North. Knowledge and information
becomes accessible to all
• Globalization also allows greater democratization and strengthening of
human rights and the rights of nature and animals. Totalitarian regimes and
dictatorships can no longer transgress these rights with impunity. Any
transgression of this kind is known through modern means of information.
• Globalization promotes the rapprochement of peoples and cultures.
Societies no longer live in autarky: they interact and fertilize to produce
better things. the cultures become richer by influencing each other.
• Human recreation is also enriched by the openness of the world. Sport
(world events are transmitted live to all countries), cinema, shows of all
kinds strengthen the cohesion and rapprochement of peoples.
• With globalization, countries that suffer from natural or man-made
disasters receive rapid support from other countries, which alleviates the
suffering of the disaster victims.
• Through globalization, man goes beyond the narrow limits of narrow
nationalist affiliations to become a citizen of the world.
The disadvantages of globalization:
Globalization has not only advantages, it also has several disadvantages:
• Economically, the market economy that has transformed the world into a
large open shopping mall is the cause of many financial crises that now
threaten several failed countries. The financial crisis that is triggered in a
country (eg USA or Greece) no longer affects these countries alone, but affects
the entire world economy.
• Due to economic globalization, social inequalities between rich and poor
countries are increasing and becoming stronger. competition between countries
whose citizens enjoy high purchasing power and other countries where purchasing
power is very low necessarily aggravates the suffering of the poor.
• Offshoring to countries where labor is cheaper is certainly benefiting
the latter, but this is to the detriment of the countries of origin.
• the political authorities of poor countries are increasingly under the
pressure of international agencies that dictate policy to them, which is not
always at the service of the citizens of these countries.
• The same applies to politics. a political crisis in one country can lead
to bloody political crises in other countries. this can be a good thing as it
can be a bad thing
• Because of globalization, the great world powers tend to interfere more
often in the internal affairs of countries, to influence domestic policies to
direct them to their own advantage.
• Because of globalization, cultural specificities tend to disappear and
become uniform: cultural and social impoverishment results. people abandon
their customs, their ways of dressing, of eating, their lifestyles to adopt a
universal mode. There is a risk of losing the cultural riches of each region.
• globalization also facilitates the rapid circulation of bad things:
diseases (epidemics of AIDS, avian influenza, tuberculosis, malaria, etc.).
international terrorism also finds what it seeks.
