Hilton is an American hotel group founded by Conrad Hilton in the early 20th century. Hilton remains the second largest hotel group in the world with 4,278 establishments and 700,000 rooms in 85 countries. The Hilton Worldwide Group is a leader in the hospitality industry and currently employs more than 130,000 people. Its loyalty program, known as the Hilton Honors, comprises over 29 million people worldwide, including 2.5 million new members in 2010.

It was in 1919 that Conrad Hilton bought its first hotel in Cisco, Texas. The first hotel to bear the name "Hilton" was built in Dallas in 1925. In 1943, Hilton became the first hotel chain in the United States. In 1949, the group opened its first hotel outside US territory in San Juan (Puerto Rico) and bought the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

In December 2005, the Hilton hotels were reunited. Separated amicably in 1964, the American Hilton Hotels Corporation bought out the name and 400 hotels of the British Hilton Group which refocused on its gambling activity and ceased all hotel activity.

The group is bought by the Blackstone Group in July 2007 for more than $ 20 billion.

In October 2014, the group sold the Waldorf-Astoria hotel to a Chinese insurance company for $ 1.95 billion, Hilton continuing to manage the hotel1.

In October 2016, HNA Group announced the acquisition of a 25% interest in Hilton Hotels & Springs at Blackstone Group for $ 6.5 billion2.
