The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) was launched in December 2004 under the theme "Bridging Cultures, Minds Meeting", highlighting the organizers' desire to promote understanding and mutual respect between the different communities through cinema And nations. This festival is organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum1.
In 2006, the festival launched the Muhr Award for Excellence in Arab Cinema, with the aim of raising awareness of Arab filmmakers at both the regional and international levels. In 2008, the Muhr Award was expanded to include African and Asian cinema.
Organized in Dubai, the DIFF has a budget comparable to that of the Cannes Film Festival and it has become, thanks to its film market and various conferences and workshops, an important meeting for film professionals around the world. Other in the competitive section devoted to fiction, documentary and short film, the festival includes various other non-competitive sections dedicated to world cinema, children's film and animation. Tributes are also devoted every year to important personalities of the cinema (Youssef Chahine, Im Kwon-taek ...).
Without a red carpet or the presence of big Hollywood stars, the festival quickly acquired artistic legitimacy thanks to a team of internationally renowned breeders and consultants, including the directors (current or former) of festivals Such as Rotterdam and London. As a sign of this legitimacy, the International Federation of Film Press (FIPRESCI) has become the festival's partner since the 2008 edition, where it will give its annual prize for the best Arabic film.

The DIFF, is considered among the most prestigious film festivals. Each year, 180 films are chosen to screen them in front of 55,000 spectators
