The Princess and the Pea
There was once a prince who wanted to marry a princess, but a real
princess. He walked around the Earth to find one but there was always something
wrong; There were princesses, but were they real princesses? It was difficult
to appreciate; Always one thing or the other did not seem perfect. He returned
home sadly, he would have liked to meet a real princess.
One evening, in a frightful weather, lightning and thunder, rain
falls, which were frightful, they knocked at the door of the town, and the old
king himself went to open the door. It was a princess who was there, outside.
But great gods! What was she looking like in that rain, by that time! The water
flowed from her hair and her clothes, entered by the tip of her shoes and came
out by the heel ... and she claimed to be a real princess!
"We'll see that," thought the old queen, but she said
nothing. She went into the bedroom, removed all the bedding, and put a pea at
the bottom of the bed; She then took twenty mattresses, which she stacked on
the pea, and on top of it she again placed twenty eider-down quilts. It was on
this that the princess was to sleep that night. In the morning she was asked
how she had slept.
"Frightfully ill," she replied, "I have scarcely
closed the eyes of the night. God knows what was in this bed. I was lying on
something so hard that I have blues and blacks all over my body! It's terrible!

Then they recognized that she was a real princess, since she had
felt the pea through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider feathers. Such
a sensitive skin could only be that of an authentic princess.
The prince then took her for wife, now sure of having found a real
princess, and the pea was exhibited in the cabinet of art treasures, where it
can still be seen if no one has taken it. And this is a true story.
